How To Stand Out on Black Friday

Black Friday is just around the corner, and any retailer knows that’s the day when holiday shopping season officially begins. Here are some Black Friday marketing tips to help you stand out.

1. Run a Facebook Ad campaign

During the holiday season, people turn to their News Feed for gift ideas. 49% of global surveyed shoppers say Facebook is influential in their holiday shopping. This is an opportunity to promote your business on Facebook and grow sales during the holiday season.

Black Friday is now celebrated by 1 in 3 people worldwide, up from 1 in 4 last year. Promote special deals and discounts for Black Friday and start running your ads earlier that week.

2. Have an in-store event

Turn Black Friday into a special event for your customers. Create a festive party-like ambiance by serving free drinks and snacks, have a live band or DJ, and put up some holiday decorations. Your customers are already out looking for the best deals, so why not grab their attention with a fun event!

During the event, raffle off free products and gift cards. Entrants will provide their email addresses so you can use that information to follow up with them at a later time.

3. Create a gift guide

There will likely be customers who want to take advantage of your deals but are indecisive about what to buy. Help them out by creating gift guides, segmenting by price, interest or persona. These will be a source of inspiration and conveniently display products the customer may not have otherwise noticed.

4. Offer gift card deals

Gift cards are an increasingly popular holiday gift. Offer gift card deals to maximize your Black Friday product sales and provide future opportunities for potential upsells as well. Strategies like a free $5 gift card to your store with a gift card purchase of $25 or $50, or 10% off the purchase of 2 or more gift cards work well. Just be sure to make the deal enticing enough to draw attention, while still showing revenue.

5. Internal competition for your employees

Black Friday is a chaotic day for anyone who takes part in it, especially your employees. Make getting the most sales for the day a fun competition. Not only making their daily job more fun than usual, give away a gift card to a local restaurant or a free hot tech item.

Another fun competition for the holiday season is a Yankee Gift Swap. The rules are simple: every time someone made a sale over a certain dollar amount, they could open a gift (no shaking allowed of course). Once the first gift was opened, anyone else who had made a sale over the predetermined amount could either open another package or steal one that had already been unwrapped.
